Saturation-Induced Variable-Flux Characteristics in a 12-Slot 10-Pole Concentrated Winding Permanent-Magnet Motor

This paper proposes a stator core design to achieve variable-flux characteristics enhanced by magnetic saturation in fractional-slot concentrated winding (FSCW) permanent-magnet (PM) motors without additional excitation systems, complicated structures, or active controls. Magnetic induced at suitable locations can enhance because the PM flux linkage is variable with cores. In distributed configurations, symmetrically for each rotor pole fundamental that dominant spatial distribution of air-gap density. The characteristics. FSCW not several space harmonics. poles cannot proposed design, has thin tooth tips inducing saturation. achieves are effective expanding operating region decreasing electromotive force and increasing torque. efficacy determined estimating motor performance through finite element method analysis demonstrating actual prototype.
